One of the busiest tourist destinations in Spain, Alicante is renowned for being sunny, laid back spot on the picturesque Mediterranean coast.  Although a big part of Alicante's charm is that it is an ideal place to go for a relaxing summer holiday, there is much to see and do in the surrounding area - the bustling marina, the stunning Santa Barbara Castle and the nearby Balearic Islands all proving popular.  One of the busiest times of the year in Alicante is in June when the Bonfires of Saint John festival is held - this is a week long celebration of fireworks and bonfires that simply can't be missed!

Alicante is serviced by Alicante Airport, as well as train connections from Sevilla, Madrid and Barcelona and ferry links from Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.  As a major hub for tourism it is no surprise Alicante has so many car hire companies based from the city itself - Avis, Holiday Autos, Argus, Sixt, Budget, Auto Europe, Hertz, National/Alamo, Europcar, Solmar and Atesa are just a few of the larger car rental companies based in and around Alicante and it's airport.

Alicante is linked to Valencia in the north by the AP-7 motorway.  Albacete, a small town inland from Alicante, is reachable by taking the A31.  Murcia, another inland town to the south-west, is situated on the A7, whilst Cartagena, another popular coastal town, is south of Alicante on the AP7.  The hottest months in Alicante are July and August, with average maximum temperatures during the day reaching 30°C.  It is definitely worth ensuring that your hire car has air-conditioning!
